Well, actually… if you do it right, you can. Each power is limited to 10 seconds in the level, so you can’t just float your way to the end. I’d be happier if I could switch between the different courses for variety but that doesn’t seem to be an option.Īs you progress through single-player career mode, you’ll gain coins and “utilities” like the ability to use a parachute to slow down and control your fall, anti-gravity to float over obstacles and so on. That doesn’t do it for me so being forced to play the same hole over and over becomes a bit of a chore.

Where so many other iOS games give you a rating out of three stars, the pinnacle of achievement here is presumably to get a hole-in-one. Yes, yes, I know this is to give you a sense of accomplishment and progression and it’s just How Games Work but I do find it tedious. Rather annoyingly, you do need to finish each hole on par or better before unlocking the next. You also have Pirate Cavern, Graveyard and Carnival. All the screenshots here are from the Britannia theme. In true crazy golf style, you use cannons, mystery tunnels (or in this case, teleporters) and magnets to navigate each level and they get progressively more difficult. 4 golf courses with 18 holes each gives a very good length for the single-player career mode. Instead – as one would expect from a golf game – you hit your ball into the hole, amidst a host of environment hazards. You don’t spend your time trying to blow each other up. Worms Crazy Golf translates the physics and 2D setting of the traditional worm-killing franchise into a fantastic game on the iPad. The traditional Worms style is there but wrapped in a more (dare I say the word?) social setting. I lost an entire afternoon the first time I sat down with Worms Crazy Golf. Since them, Team 17 have been churning out the Worms games and you know what? They’re still great. Rather more offensive to Indian gamers perhaps, but it was always done with love. Ah, the hilarity when my worms would bungee off a cliff, rope securely wrapped around their little tails, and shout “Poppadom!” Worms 2 was even better with the addition of amazing voices like The Raj. Back at school I loved the original game. Team 17's also working on revamping the two 3D Worms games with Worms Ultimate Mayhem, which is slated to launch on Steam, XBLA and PSN this year.I haven’t played Worms in years.

Worms Crazy Golf will be released on PC through Steam, PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network, and iOS devices "later this year." There's no word on a price yet.

Unfortunately, there's no mention of online multiplayer in the announcement, only hot-seat. If players get half as much enjoyment out of it as we've already had, then we'll be very, very happy." "We've had a great deal of fun playing the game in multiplayer during development," head of design John Dennis said in the announcement, "and with four-player social multiplayer support, it has all the hallmarks of the Worms brand: the trash-talking, pressure to make the shot, terribly unhelpful 'advice' from opponents, and often hilarious consequences when that risky shot that could have won the game goes terribly wrong. It certainly embraces the "crazy" label, boasting ball-blasting cannons, sheep, parachute balls, magnets, mines, and mean old women, with nary a frustrating windmill or tedious slope puzzle in sight. Worms Crazy Golf will swap shotguns and bombs for sticks and balls in 54 holes of 2D golf. The developer today announced Worms Crazy Golf, the silly 2D turn-based strategy series' take on the thrilling and action-packed Scottish sport. Team17's never been shy about working its Worms franchise hard, but at least the latest game will allow the annelids a little rest and relaxation.
